We will be heading up to the grandparents house on Christmas Eve and staying for several days. I am in a quandary as to what to do about presents. My husband is not keen on hauling all the presents up to the gp just to turn around and bring them back down. I can understand his feelings on this, but I also want the kids to have their memorable Christmas experiance of waking up Christmas morning to presents under the tree and stuffed stockings. Has anyone ever been at a relatives house over Christmas? What did you do?
Well, what we did was to get up early the day before we left and let them open their gifts from us. The gifts we had from Santa, we carted with us and put under the relatives tree.
We are going home for Christmas -from NC to NJ. I am bringing 1 gift for each child. I will give them the rest – 3 gifts each- on Epiphany, which is January 6th. This is the first time we will do gifts this way, but it seems fitting- 3 gifts on the day Our Lord received 3 gifts from the Magi.
We are actually leaving today for a week vacation for the first time during Christmas! All presents are packed away in the van! Takes up a lot of room! I know it is not about the gifts, but we enjoy giving and we had to bring them along! 🙂
It is not fun packing or bringing them back..have done that too in the past going to my moms.
I haven’t needed to as Mom, but as a child, my parents would have one present from them under the tree and we always had presents from cousins and grandparents, so there was plenty for us to play with even though our cousins would get way more than us. Our parents let us know that we had stuff at home under the tree and this gave us something to look forward to when having to leave the relatives and return home. It helped with the let down of Christmas….you know that day of super fun to the day whenit is all over and time to pack & leave. LOL It worked for us and parents jjust had to cart home what we got plus the one gift from them.
