Can anyone recomend some good books that we can check out from the library that tie into the month of February? I was hoping to find some decent children’s books on the theme of love or something that might tie in with the up comming Valentine’s day holiday. However, all I can seem to find is Twaddle. Books like “Arthurs Valentine” and stuff like that. I even decided we would research the Holiday–however, it turns out that very little is even known about St. Valentine. (There were actually several Saints by the name of Valentine and little is known about all of them.)
I know there has to be some quality books out there for this Holiday. Can anyone point me to a few?
(The age range I am looking for is for 3-4 yrs of age if this helps.)

This one is “The Ballad of Valentine” (rhymes to the tune of my darling clementine) and it was truly wonderful. It is about a man trying to send a letter to his valentine and all the funny things that go wrong. We all loved it and read it many times – but alas it was a library book and had to go back. I need to get it again this year.

Here is the amazon link and you can look inside. The pictures are wonderful. Each page shows what love is vs. what love isn’t, and the pictures progress throughout the book. It is kind of hard to explain and the view on amazon only shows one inside pages so it doesn’t do it justice at all, but one example is a picture of a house and it deteriorates as the book goes on b/c it is on the side of the page that shows what love isn’t. The opposing page shows a flower that blossoms as the book goes on b/c it is on the side showing what love is. It is not for V-day of course, but a it is a stunning pictoral representation of love and what happens when we demonstrate it and when we don’t. Thanks for reminding me so I can pull it out soon, it is on our shelf of books that I don’t want damaged it is so pretty! I think you will love it.
