If you’re done with the resources listed on your Scheduler page, you can just hit the Delete link beside them to take them off your schedule. Then add the ones you want for this year, and you’re set to go.
I am a new SCM Organizer mom! To further the discussion that Kelly B. started I would like to present a case for being able to “archive previously completed lessons” (those that will never be used again).
I would really dislike to have to delete these completed courses (just because I did not want to see them) for two reasons:
1) I have spent a lot of time adding many of my own resources, and most importantly,
2) If I delete previously completed lessons, they are gone permanently. Should my family join a different umbrella group or The Learning Community (an accredited MD private school) in the future, they may ask to see reports on work completed. Yes, I will always PDF our reports weekly; however, should The Learning Community ask me (upon joining their group), for a report of past work completed on a monthly or even annual basis, I would have to have to say, “Gee, I only have saved reports on a weekly basis, is that ok?”. This example is completely hypothetical, and of of course I would keep an annual summary of courses completed. Yet, if I’m asked to produce a report in a completely different format or time period, I would not be able to produce it having deleted the previously completed courses (just because I didn’t want to see them anymore).
Sorry, for the long run on sentences, I just had to get that long train of thought out of my mind.
So, my question is . . . is there a way to “ARCHIVE” (maybe make this a new tab), previously completed courses? These are courses that are completely done, ones that I am not saving for younger children to use. Maybe I could move them to the “ARCHIVE” tabbed section, so that they are still there and not viewable in the “Scheduler” section. That way, if I ever had to generate a report based on someone else’s criteria, I would be able to do so easily.
I really like the functionality of this program and I plan to grow with it as it evolves. I’m looking forward to many of your listed future updates and hopefully, you will consider my request as well.
Deleting a resource from the Scheduler only removes it from your Daily Plan. Once you’ve checked off something as Worked On or Finished, that record stays in your Records permanently. And you can access your completed work indefinitely via the Reports tab. Deleting the resource from your Daily Plan won’t affect your Records or Reports. Does that help?
Sonya, if something is deleted from the scheduler, and it is a resource we have added ourselves, isn’t it deleted all together for future use (I understand that it is still in our past reports)? Or is it still available to be used in the future without re-entering all the information? I think I’m confused or I’ve done something wrong in the past. Thanks!
Oh, and I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for custom subject areas! LOL 🙂 (Couldn’t help but mention it since there seems to be a lot of behind the scenes work going on right now—-everything is so nice!)
Your personally added resources should stay put as well, Kim. If you go to Account, then Resources, you should see a list of all the resources you’ve added. They can be edited, scheduled again, whatever.
Yes, we are trying to keep the upgrades coming. In fact, I was just talking with the programmers about the subjects feature and what all that would affect. I’m finding out that sometimes programming is like unraveling a sweater or knocking over a train of dominoes — take your pick of word picture.
On another note, we had our homeschool support group registration night last night and one of the ladies who came to the SCM DVD seminar I hosted was still bubbling over with excitement at what she learned….and telling others about it along with Spelling Wisdom. I think I’m going to offer to host another one again in the fall…..unless of course you are putting our area in your schedule anytime soon. (Speaking of wish list things of a different kind….LOL ).
Thank you to you and the whole SCM team for all you do!
-Kim
