I was curious if there is anyone that just used something like StartWrite and had their child learn the letters by actually tracing the passage rather than learning one single letter at a time? Or would that just be too much a young child to handle?
We are using Donna youngs website for copywork in cursive for right now. I want to get Sandi Queens, It looks good. My seven year old wants to learn cursive really bad so I have her and my 10 year old doing the copywork from Donna Young and they seem to like it. Its free to copy! :o)
I just bought StartWrite and love it. My dd is 4.5. We started with HWOT. I don’t like it progresses to cursive and I didn’t like having to buy more workbooks for her to practice. We did really enjoy the letter pieces to learn the capital letters. I think it was key for her as a hands on activity. I traced the pattern in the teacher’s book onto craft foam and cut them out. Then we could each have a set to work with (she could be the teacher which she loved) and it’s much cheaper. I am now printing out copywork pages from StartWrite. Some of them she writes on directly and some I laminated so she can pratice and wipe it off.
Well I decided for my 2 middle boys to have them do the Pictures in Cursive from Queens. For my youngest he will finish his italics book and then I will just use StartWrite for his copywork until he is ready for cursive. I think that will be awhile since he seems to have some fine motor issues. My oldest is doing Queens Copywork for Boys and will continue on with that.
