When using the bookfinder, it seems the age range given is the age at which the material is appropriate.  is there a way to sort by reading level so i can find some books my dd can read on her own?  she is reading the courage of sarah noble and i’d like to assign something else that is a step up from that next but i’m not sure what it should be.  it is so hard to know how difficult a book might or might not be for her!

Also, how do i assess what the grade level at which she is reading? this might help me find books more easily, even though we all know the measure is arbitrary.

Right, the Bookfinder recommends what ages would find the resource interesting and appropriate. There isn’t a way to sort by reading level right now.

Is there a specific genre or topic that you want to find the next book in? I’d be happy to give suggestions. Or you might look on our Curriculum Guide at books recommended for her age.

One way to find reading level is to look on the back of the book. Some have a reading level listed. Or sometimes Amazon.com’s reading level is close; not always, but sometimes. So you might look up the title there and see what else is suggested.

I’ve just finished watching my dvd copy of  “Books & Things” and “Planning your CM Ed” and am trying to find 36 books in the bookfinder for my son’s school year. He is seven years old.

I would also like to know where I can go to get an assessment to determine my son’s reading level. That way I know where to start looking in the bookfinder to find books he might be interested in.
