Hi I was just wondering if anyone uses a different spine than Stories of America or Stories Nations for the SCM modules? Several of my kids do not care for the Stories…. spine. But I love the simplicity of the modules.
I haven’t used that module yet. However, I have used a different spine for my youngest dd for the last few modules as FM was not her cup of tea. At any rate, you could definitely choose another spine. Look at the offerings in the Stories book and see if you can’t find some books to use in place of it. Remember that even if you hae older children (not sure if you do), you can still use a WELL written chidren’s book as a spine and then give them additional personal history offerings as listed in the guide.
I did note that Miracles and Massacres by Glenn Beck is getting some really good reviews by a wide variety of people. Perhaps that is something that you can use? I haven’t been able to take a look at it yet, but I’m interested based on what I’m hearing about it. 🙂
I always supplement whatever spine we are using with Stories of the World audio CD’s. They provide a more detailed overview and the kids love listening to them. Sometimes they move ahead of where we are in the spine, and then they are teaching me additional information in the history lesson :-). I would say feel free to change your spine, but it probably won’t correspond exactly with your guide. There is plenty of room in the margin to pencil in a coordinating lesson in advance if you choose to do so.
