I’m considering doing the 106 days of Creation study with my soon to be 1st grader (6 yo). I was looking at the books listed in the sample of the guide. Since I will only doing it with a younger child, are all the books listed necessary? Are some for older children, kind of like the history guides? Thanks for any help/experience with this!

You need a book for all the subjects, so whether you use a library book or the recommended ones, you’ll need to gather them.  We used all but one of the recommended ones and they are choice – great books with fantastic illustrations.  The only book for older children that I can think of right off hand is the Considering God’s Creation.

I believe 106 Days was created by SCM specifically for the younger children, grades 1-3 perhaps. We used it two years ago with my very young children and enjoyed it. Since the curriculum was created for young ones, you should seek out as many of the resources as you can find, except Considering God’s Creation. We did not use this book and I don’t feel that we missed out on anything. Most of the books I checked out at the library, although I have since purchased several because they are just good to have around. My children still read many of them over and over. So, I would say to buy/borrow as many of the books as you can get your hands on. They are the vehicle used to drive the lessons.
