I will be teaching this suggests side by side next year; or so was my plan.  But my 8th/9th grader is ready to start now.  We have a basic program we will be using and I am going to have him CLEP out of these when he is done.  We are doing a full class approach not a quick learn it and leave it.  I am using the PASS from Florida as a starting point as a easy and free suggestion from a good reliable source.

I am wondering what web sites, movies, or extra books would be a good fit for this time period?  Any suggestions would be great and appreciated.  I will mention I will have to rely on the library for movies as we don’t do Netflix.

We used this a lot.  First found some of the vids at our library, then discovered they’re all online!  Here’s the link to the site’s video page.  And below are the first ones we started out with…I watched these with the kids along with a couple of others and they were EVCELLENT!  Then, I think the kids watched them all and used other things on the site as well.  http://www.annenbergclassroom.org/page/all-videos

These videos along with narrations were the heart of our course and it was well-loved 🙂

It is wonderful!!  My kids have watched and rewatched it multiple times and continue to learn from it.

My daughter just took (and passed!) this CLEP last week.  Her main study/review/fill in the gaps resource for the week or two before the test was Hippocampus.org American Govt course (recommended by CLEP on their website).

I’ll check my list for other videos.  This is a fun course to use videos for – they really lit the fire for what could have otherwise been a dready subject for us.  I also have the books recommended by Sonlight, but we haven’t used them yet.  Hoping to use at least a few of those as read-aloud books yet for my son.  HTH!
