An introduction and some pertinent facts:  I am beginning my 14th year of home education.  I have graduated one child and this school year will graduate another.  My high school curriculum is set (we have used David Quine’s Worldviews of the Western World and LOVED it). We have always done CM style education one way or another with living books being at the heart of our school.  However, somehow, I’ve gotten off track.  I’ve begun adding things that others are doing because they look so good and now I am just confused.  I usually have our year planned out by now but this year?  I’m stuck.

My indecision comes from trying to make up my mind how to proceed with my younger girls.  I have two younger daughters, aged 10 and 7, and I want to SIMPLIFY and stick with a plan from here to high school. I want to get back to CM basics and the things we have LOVED about home education.   I would like to do as many subjects together as possible.   I’m not sure whether to use SCM, AO, HUFI or a combination of some of those elements.  I am not sure what year/Module to begin with.  I am wondering about buying actual books or using a simple Kindle.  In short (or long) ladies, I feel like a woman driven and tossed by the wind.  HELP!  Please.  Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated.  I feel like I am starting from scatch—like a newbie.  The choices seem overwhelming.

I feel better just having posted this—please tell me I’m not alone out here.  Drifting.

    Thanks,

    Clarissa

You can use one SCM History Module for both girls. This would cover Bible, History, Geography, some reading, narration and writing. As far as which module to begin with that depends on what you did last year and what you want to study this year. You could choose the module that covers the same or similar timespan as your high school student or you could begin with the first one and study history chronologically from the beginning of time with lots of Bible reading. Or you coulld begin with Module five and study the beginning of American History. It is really your choice. You can successfully begin with any module. I’m not familiar with HUFI to make a comparison but I believe that SCM is easier on the parent than AO becaise AO has students working individually whereas SCM lets you combine some subjects to study as a family.

Happy trails, whichever way you choose.

Thanks, Sue.  I am just feeling really overwhelmed.  I know that if I try to divide my attention up into three different grade levels, I will faily miserably.

I’m re-reading the recent articles about how to teach each subject and hoping to come up with a schedule soon.  I will use SCM and add in some of the books from AO.  I think that is a solid plan.  I’m not sure about what module to begin with.  Last year we began with Genesis and Adam and His Kin using Mystery of History as a spine.  We loved MOH when we used it before but this year, the girls’ (10 and 7) eyes just glazed over every time I got it out.  We ended up not finishing it.   So, I don’t know whether to begin again with that year or pick up where I left off or start a completely different module.

I know we’ll be using Cornerstone Curriculum’s WV of WW  in high school.  We’ll cover History pretty thoroughly there.  Just not sure how to proceed this year since I cannot finish all 6 modules with both girls before my 10 yo begins high school.  Any suggestions?

Thank you for your reply.  I’ve been feeling so overwhelmed and confused.
