I wanted to send this out to the group. The CRC and The Parental Rights Amendment is something many of us have been aware of for some time. In a nutshell…the CRC gives the government authority over our children. Please visit this link at parentalrights.org, learn about what is at stake and sign the petition if you haven’t already. You can also call your senator is he/she is not backing the amendment. President Obama told the UN 2 weeks ago that he backed the CRC and would do anything in his power to see that is is adopted. Please do what you can to stand in the gap for our children!
When you contact your Senator, and I mean CALL THEM and making your wishes respectfully known, it makes a difference; talk to them about the Parental Rights Amendment, too. I know that the two Ga. Senators are against it. However, courts have been applying International Law in our Courts for years, now. http://www.parentalrights.org/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={4771B53E-D345-4753-BEF4-68C1CA71CE13}&DE=
Here’s the page about your states actions to support parental rights and concerning the CRC and where your Senators are on the issue. Even if they support it, I recommend you call them and thank them-they need those types of calls too!
I heard that those online petitions don’t actually do any good. That being said I will sign it just in case :). I would say if you are able, contact your senator.
I did contact both Texas senators. It was very simple to find their phone numbers. The calls only took about 3 minutes for both! I agree with thehauserfamily…take five minutes and call your senators!
Called the officials when this first started being discussed, and have called again – it s a slippery slope and should not be allowed to pass – parental rights are going the way of the woolly mammoth…and it is dreadful. In Europe we lost a lot of rights to the EU and I lament that as well. There are secular forces out there that would see the traditional family destroyed, and so yes, phone, sign and do what you must to secure your rights. Linda
As far as the effectiveness of online petitions is concerned, I think that one such as is being discussed here has its positive points. I recently read an article on Snopes.com (the site that attempts to separate rumor from truth), and while the author does not believe online petitions are effective, she does state that “….they do serve one actual valuable purpose: They can sometimes be useful tools with which to acquaint folks with situations they might otherwise have little, if any, knowledge of.” (http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/petition/internet.asp, 9 June 2007)
Petitions that direct you to reputable, well-organized website, such as http://www.parentalrights.org, will generally keep you updated on their efforts (if you choose to receive email from them) and will usually ask you to take further action such as writing or calling your elected officials. Petitions that are circulated via individual emails not linked to a specific website are often hoaxes or at least a waste of time.
I don’t know that I’d trust Snopes.com’s opinion. They are pretty liberal on a lot of their “answers” to certain conservative “myths.”
Anyway, I do follow ParentalRights.org and get their emails. I’ve never called my Senators, but I have emailed them several times (not just about this). I usually get some sort of written letter or email back from them (well, from the good ones anyway LOL). I have heard that their staff is mostly counting the “vote yes”es or “vote no”s they receive. As to online petitions, I have no idea if they are effective or not, which is why I always follow-up with a written email to their office. Most have a contact address or form on their website at house.gov or senate.gov.
Oh, I wasn’t saying that Snopes had a positive take on online petitions; they don’t, and the article was very lengthy in it’s negative opinion. I did quote the one portion that I felt pretty much summed up where the beauty of petitions such as the one on Parental Rights lies: visiting their site provides valuable information and promotes additional action.
I too have signed a few reputable sites’ online petitions for various issues, and have received emails back from my representatives, so I know that the proper people are receiving them.
