I am sorryf or postin so many questions today–just starting my planning and have a lot going through my mind.

Last yaer my son used the Mavis Beacon for typing. He did quite well with it, but then it froze up on us and we didn’t complete it. I just saw a post on the DanceMat and I will definately use that this year as well.

My question is, once he conquers typing, what do you suggest that he types–besides for emails to family. I don’t want to give in to him typing over writing–still building that ability. Do you think playing games of typing to build that strength is enough for a 5th grader?

    thanks–Donna

My girls like to type their dictation exercises. I also keep an eye out for projects that they can type for me: typing recipes into my software, entering book information into my home library software. You’re right, you want to give him enough practice to keep his skills up but not to overshadow his writing abilities.

I love the ideas you’ve offered, Sonya!
