Cranberry Thanksgiving is also a Five in a Row book. So I used bits and pieces from different places and switched a few things, but most of the ideas come from HomeSchool Share.
Thanksgiving: What Makes it Special by Harold Myra
Farmer Goff and His Turkey Sam by Brian Schatell (silly, but fun. We change it to Groff since that’s our last name. We do the same with The Three Billy Goats Gruff story.)
Thanks for the book suggestions! I went searching on this site a couple of weeks ago and saw The Thanksgiving Story recommended in an old post, so we read that this year. We also read Thanksgiving: A Time to Remember by Barbara Rainey. I recommend it for school age through adult. I will have to make a note of these books for next year.
I came across this thread from last year, and I was wondering if any of the books mentioned here would be suitable for upper elementary through middle school level. Thanks.
This is one of our favorites… I’m guessing no one else will say it – so thought I’d mention it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcdV_BQd4CE A Plump and Perky Turkey by Teresa Bateman
You know, I was looking at requesting the Louisa May Alcott book, An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving, from my public library, but I got the impression it is really a picture book, mostly for younger children. Is that the case, or might that have been an adaptation (i.e., abridged version) of the original book?
We just picked up Squanto and the First Thanksgiving, as well as The Story of Thanksgiving, at a library sale for 1.00 each! Cranberry Thanksgiving is on its way! I can’t wait!
