We used SCM module 4 (MA/REN/REF) this year. Loved it! It was a great fit for our 6 and 12 (almost 7 & already 13) yod&s. I used CC maps as (cycle 2) as we already had them. We also used IEW’s Medieval theme based writing lessons and some of the timeline cards from Veritas Press. It was a hodge podge, but gave us plenty to work with and inspired research of the time period, too.
I like the simplicity of the guides. I add/delete titles as needed/desired/required by interest or availability. It was a great year of learning. I feel like it not only provided plenty for the kids, it equipped me to prepare our Texas history plans for this next school year. Honestly, the Planning your CM education helps and using the module guide helped me “see” the resources we already have for how they can be utilized. I still have to put forth more effort than a commentary guide or textbook lesson type situation, but our kids enjoyed the study and retained it better than they have when we used those kinds of materials.
I know this doesn’t speak to TQH, but I’m in the “trying to be content with what God has in front of me” mode. It’s the only way I can avoid burn out/disappointment. Trusting simplicity and conversations over living books has made a huge difference at our house. 🙂
If I was to use TQ again, I would go for the extra activities they now have. They weren’t available when we did it before. Check for samples on the website.
