Hi.
This is my first time writing here. I’m in my 2nd year of homeschooling my daughters who are presently in 6th and 5th grades. We’re using Mystery of History this year but I think it’s too try for my younger daughter. I’ve discovered TruthQuest History Guides which looks full of living books. Do any of you use TruthQuest? Can this source be used with the Charlotte Mason method? Or maybe a better question, can it be used successfully with CM? What draws me to it is the provided “commentary” that proceeds the reading of correlating living books. Thank you in advance. Blessings.

Truth quest is basically a biobluography and as such can be quite useful. I don’t personally use the commentary bits much but there is no reason you can’t. Do be aware that they have a particular Christian take on history.

I’ve used TQ since it was hot off the press. It it perfect for a CM education. Living ideas through living books, narration to enable those ideas to penetrate the child’s heart and mind. You can use the commentary or not. The biggest caution I would give you is, do not get bogged down. There are SO many topics and SO MANY books, you cannot do it all. There’s not a schedule that says, do this now and read these pages on these days. (If it did, I wouldn’t use it.) But some moms feel like they are “missing something” their child can’t live without if they don’t do every single thing, then they’re frustrated because it takes them three years to get through a guide. Michelle herself cautions about this and I see this with moms in my library all the time. I take their hands and have them repeat after me, “I can’t so it all! I can’t do it all.” 🙂 Enjoy. We’ve loved TQ for many years.

I too use TQ and love it!…mostly because I can use as many or as few books as I want along with Charlotte’s methods. I agree with Robin about the possibility of becoming easily overwhelmed by all the yummy book choices, but knowing this up front may help. There’s a wonderful Yahoo Group for users of TQ and the author, Michelle Miller is an active member of the group. I recommend joining to learn more about TQ. Also, I’ve written many blog posts on books that we’ve read while using TQ as well as some scheduling posts. You can find them here…

BTW, I’ve also used Mystery of History and we enjoyed it as well. I really used it as more of a spine book, requiring narration after each reading, then added quality literature as a supplement. We did not do any of the projects. I have a few posts and schedules here regarding our usage…
