I came across this in the body of another post and I wanted to post it as a stand alone…Tristan has a wonderful idea that I think will work really well for us and I wanted to make sure you all could see it more readily!

here is the link to how she does it:

Oh. my. goodness. I will defiently make use of this! I work from home, and there are times I really need my third grader to work independantly for a block of time so I can work. This is perfect! I can make a little deck of cards with these ideas, and tell her to choose 5 or 6 to do.  Many of these look like they need the help of another person, but I’m sure I could come up with some that don’t. Thanks for the idea 🙂

Glad the idea is helping others! It has been so wonderful at our house. My kids enjoy it because it seems ‘fun’. Yesterday we did these 5 minute studies:

    – Recite scripture memory

    – Sing a hymn we’re learning

    – Read 1 Aesop’s fable and discuss.

    – Read an etiquette lesson (Etiquette Factory Intermediate Level)

    – Had a child read/recite a poem for the family.

Nothing took longer than 5 minutes, simple but effective.

For us, 5 minutes lessons is the ONLY way we can survive. My son, with ASD, cannot stay longer than that on a subject. So we just do a little bit everyday.

I used to feel guilty thinking I should stay for 20-30 doing one subject at a time but realized that this works for us and I am seeing results!

Tia, thanks for bringing attention to this, and Tristan, what fun! I look forward to doing this.
