My son will be 11 next fall and I want him to read one of these for onoe of his Lit. selections. Which one would be better and why?

He’s already listened to Robinson Crusoe on librivox audio.

    Thanks, Rachel

IMO Treasure Island is MUCH much easier to read.  I find the dialogue in CC very, very difficult.  The first couple times I read it I had no idea at all what the ship people were even saying.

Okay, that makes sense. I have a wonderful old used copy of TI that has Wyeth illustrations.

So for what age do you think CC would be suited?

Older than me.  Sealed  No, just kidding.  A teen or mature pre-teen who has the patience to trudge through the dialogue.

Laughing I’ll shelve CC for now then! Sounds like that one would be a good one to listen to on audio to hear someone else do the proper pronunciation first.

I read Captains Courageous out loud with my then 13 year old. We also watched the old (1936 i think) movie with Spencer Tracy. We both enjoyed the book, but it did take time to get through it. I wouldn’t recommend it for a read alone for an 11 yo ..good choice.
