My husband and I are looking at homeschooling our 2 girls until we are able to hopefully relocate in a couple of years. Once we move we would be at a private christian school and would enroll them there (both of us would be working for the school). Has anyone done the transition from homeschooling with CM to classroom/school? What was it like as far as registering them, grades, etc.?
This year my daughter started high school at a private Christian school, after homeschooling all the way through 8th. We had not planned on sending her until late into her 8th grade year, and the main grading we’d done was math. She had not had a standardized test since 5th. At her school, they are very open to homeschoolers and were willing to accept all credits. I just sent a list of grades I thought she deserved based on her work and effort. It was no big deal. She did have to take a placement exam, to check her English skills and and bible knowledge(for placement in bible class).
But I would check with the school to see what they might require. Every school is different. She’s doing well over all. The only things I wish I would have done differently for school prep was a bit more practice with test taking and more Spanish(the school has a pretty intensive immersion program). Be prepared that there will likely be troubled kids that won’t necessarily act as Christians, as I’m sure you know. Hope that helps some:) Blessings, Gina
Thank you for your help. We are looking at pulling our youngest in the next couple weeks or so. I feel it is a big indicator of a problem, when a K5er is saying “I hate school!” and begging to stay home every night before she goes to bed and in the morning when she wakes up. I know she is having a hard time with some other issues right now that could influence it, but it still seems wrong to me. So my “rest” year (my husband told me to take this year to “take care” of myself) is going to get busy pretty soon. A good busy, though. 😉
Blessings as you bring your daughter home! I hope you have a fun rest of the year. Please don’t do like I did…,I was way too stressed about finishing s boxed curriculum. K takes very little time and should be fun:) Awesome that you’re doing this!
