I am looking to make my toothpaste w/anise since my kids really like that.

I was looking on Vitacost and the Anise flavor is so much cheaper than essential oil.

Anyone knows if it would make a big difference?

I would not use the anise flavor if it contained alcohol as that is not good for the teeth but it doesn’t.

It will either have alcohol or glycerine.  Neither are recommended for oral care.  The alcohol for obvious reasons.  The glycerine because it leaves a coating on the teeth that is not easily removed.

Well that one says it contains only sunflower oil and natural anise flavor. It is organic.

I was curious, so I looked up the organic anise flavor on Vitacost, and wouldn’t you know it–it really does list only those two ingredients, sunflower oil and anise essential oil! It seems as though it is just using the sunflower oil as a sort of carrier oil for the anise. It’s probably lighter in flavor, so you might have to use more drops of it to get the flavor intensity you want, but it’s a lot cheaper than the pure essential oil.

I think I might try it!
