I’ve homeschooled from the beginning, but ds9 (4th grade) is a reluctant learner. I was planning to wait until Sept to begin some subjects anyway due to possible time constraints. Does this look like too much for the first week?
Bible/Poetry/Geography
Writing 8s exercise for handwriting delay (Dianne Craft method)
Math
Literature
Language Arts (writing prompts, per Dianne Craft and Ruth Beechick)
At first glance I thought you were doing all this the first week and thought probably too much (at least for my kids:) But if you’re saying the top part for a week then adding the bottom part I think that’s fine:) I’m assuming these are scattered through the week and some of the 2nd list are just once weekly or so?
Have you used Dianne Craft’s program before? Are you doing the brain training in addition to the writing 8’s? Are you using her spelling suggestions? I just ask because it does take a while to get into the grove doing these things. The spelling is a bit time consuming – thinking up clever way to highlight the parts they need help with. Once you get going with it, it goes much faster in terms of the brain training and writing eights. So, I don’t think you’ve planned too much, but if you’re doing lots of Dianne’s suggestions it’s going to take you longer to do school in the beginning, than after you’ve gotten into it a couple of weeks.
I’m only planning to do the writing 8s. I don’t have the Brain Integration Manual. As for spelling, I’m not sure how I’ll do it. I know that once he starts his daily writing I’ll collect what he misspells, but how we’ll study them I’m not sure yet.
