I will be starting MOD 1 Bible/History/Geography in the fall for 1st grade (and kinder). I have also been looking at Bible Study Guide for All Ages. The kids also have their Sunday school curriculum and kids programs at church. Is this too much for young kids? Or too confusing using 3 different curriculums at the same time? Do you do Bible aside from the SCM modules? Thanks for any feedback.
Personally I feel like that would be too much. For younger.children I dont feel a Bible “study” is necessary. Read the Bible, build off Sunday School lessons if you would like to, but a complete different study I do not feel necessary.
We are reading through the Bible in 2 years for our evening devotions. I decided that is plenty for us. We have a shorter devotion on Sundays (our Bible readings are scheduled Mon-Sat). We also do a bit of recitation with verses, Catechism, and hymns.
In the past we’ve done shorter evening devotions, one longer weekly study, and our memory work, plus Sunday school. This also seemed to work well.
Module 1’s Bible readings are wonderful, so I definitely would go with those for the coming year. Add in some hymns and memory, and maybe a short evening devotion. I would be hesitant to add in an extra Bible program.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>Thanks for sharing what you do, HollyS I guess I was just wondering what to do on the days when no Bible was scheduled for SCM, but I think I can probably extend the SCM readings over the week since my kids are going anyway. Thanks y’all for helping me figure stuff out – otherwise it just gets stuck on a loop in my brain.</p>
I have 6 kiddos ages 9, 8, 6, 5, 4 & 2. So, 4 of my kids are 1st grade and under. We do Simply Charlotte Mason Bible reading and do scripture memory. We usually always read a portion of scripture before bed. So, on the days Bible is not assigned, they are still hearing the scriptures. I agree with these ladies. Keep it simple for sure. 🙂
Sometimes simple is best. The Bible in SCM guides is great for school and just reading through a chapter or portion of a book of the bible together as a family as many evenings or mornings a week as you can is really enough.
Yes, I think you’re right. I am transitioning away from reading Bible stories to reading the actual Bible text and was just struggling to understand how to implement that. Thanks!
