Would Tirzah or Mara of the Nile be more age appropriate for a 7th grader? Thanks!

My dd read Tirzah last year (around 10/11). She liked it very much, so I can recommend that one. I looked at MAra and for some reason, be it the storyline or something I can’t remember now, I was turned off from it. Perhaps I thought Tirzah was more relevant, less romantic? I don’t know but that’s my 2c!

Thanks, Rachel. I actually own Tirzah and just gave it to dd to start next week to replace Cat of Bubastes, which she really did not like. But am now wondering if it might be a bit on the young side? Thanks for sharing!

IN my History through LIt. book it has Tirzah for 4-6th. It’ll just be an easy read. Other his. fic. books for 7-9 are:

Pillar of Fire – J.H. INgraham (slavery and Exodus)

Lost Queen of Egypt – Lucille MOrrison (wife of Tutankamne)

    Mara, dd of the NIle

another in 4-6 that she may like:

Casting the gods Adrift: A TAle of Ancient Egypt – Geraldine MacCaughrean (during Akenaton’s reign)

    God King

    Specific events:

    Riddle of the Rosetta Stone

We enjoyed Tirzah this year with boys in 3rd and 6th. It’s a good biblical story.  I don’t know about Mara, but I doubt my boys will be that interested in it the next time around. I will put some of these other titles on my list, though.

Thanks. Maybe I’ll give Tirzah to my 4th grader instead and order Mara for my 7th grader:)

My girls recommend both. 🙂  Tirzah will be an easy read, more than likely, and Mara is *not* to be missed, in their humble opinions.

I read them both last year before giving them to dd.

Mara is a good book, but definitely has a slightly romantic overtone. Also, the character is slightly ‘rebellious’ but becomes more responsible as the book progresses. I have a pretty high standard as far as ‘filters’ go, so keep that in mind :).

Tirzah – nothing objectionable at all that I remember.

Both of them were great reads!
