My dd read Tirzah last year (around 10/11). She liked it very much, so I can recommend that one. I looked at MAra and for some reason, be it the storyline or something I can’t remember now, I was turned off from it. Perhaps I thought Tirzah was more relevant, less romantic? I don’t know but that’s my 2c!
Thanks, Rachel. I actually own Tirzah and just gave it to dd to start next week to replace Cat of Bubastes, which she really did not like. But am now wondering if it might be a bit on the young side? Thanks for sharing!
We enjoyed Tirzah this year with boys in 3rd and 6th. It’s a good biblical story. I don’t know about Mara, but I doubt my boys will be that interested in it the next time around. I will put some of these other titles on my list, though.
I read them both last year before giving them to dd.
Mara is a good book, but definitely has a slightly romantic overtone. Also, the character is slightly ‘rebellious’ but becomes more responsible as the book progresses. I have a pretty high standard as far as ‘filters’ go, so keep that in mind :).
Tirzah – nothing objectionable at all that I remember.
Both of them were great reads!
