How much time do you and/or your dc spend outdoors a day? What would be your ideal amount of time and what is actual? Thanks for sharing! Smile

Depending on the weather we still try and spend at least 45 minutes to an hour outside each day – if it rains (being English we are used to rainy days) we just put on our wellies and take umbrellas out on our walks.  Even though the girls are in high school, they still love to go on nature walks, both for the nature and the exercise.  The only time we don’t walk is when it is super hot and humid, as that does not suit us very well – we try to go early morning then.  I think the girls just got into the habit of this when we were living in England and Germany.  In England we had the countryside to walk in around our village and in Germany we had the forest about 400 yards from our home – so we were always out wandering around.  When they were small we were out for about 20 minutes or so.  My neighbor who has little children is already getting them used to being outdoors a lot, they walk in the rain and whatever weather, it is cute to see, the little girl jumping in puddles with her wellies on and carrying a little umbrella, and if they are not wealking, then they are in their garden doing things – we showed her this year where to find swallowtail caterpillars and helped them make a habitat – the little girl was thrilled to see it come out of the cocoon and watch it fly away – makes me wish I had little ones again, though my daughters still collect caterpillars each year to nurture and set free when hatched.

We’re in Florida and it is hot most of the year, but my kids – 8, 5, and 2 – usually spend about 2 hours outside every day. Sometimes much more and rarely less. We live in the city, but on a beautiful creek and they run about playing, pretending, acting, catching things until we drag them inside for dinner and bath time.

I like to go out with them most days, but right now I am HUGELY pregnant w/ number 4 and can’t hardly walk around right now. I am so very ready to have this baby and be more active!

We go out from 10-11.  After we finish school the boys go back out for hours in our fenced in backyard with the dog.  Usually around 4 I will take the baby back out for 20 minutes or so until I need to cook dinner.

My boys are 8 and almost 7, they spend anywhere from 3-5 hours per day outdoors.  Some days more.  They love playing outside.  And I encourage it, especially now while the weather is sitll good. (we live in Maine)  I’m not out there quite as much… lol.  Once a week or more we take a 2 mile walk to the local playground.  Although once it starts snowing we won’t really do that until spring.  We live in a very rural area and have a lot of property, so they have lots of room to roam and play.  It’s fantastic for them.

Thanks for sharing everyone! It’s SO easy to spend hours outside in the Spring, Summer and early Fall. However, recently our daily time outdoors has gotten shorter due to colder weather here in Michigan… and our beloved gardening season is over. I know we need to just bundle up, adjust to the temperature change and look forward to hot chocolate & a good book afterwards.  May God bless your time outdoors! Heather
