It would be helpful for our family if you had an (optional) time field in the scheduler. So if I’m scheduling, I would have available
~Subject
~Study Method
~Time
I can do a workaround now by using the custom Study Method field: Work on for 20 minutes but I’d rather have these indepedant of one another.
If you have a separate field, it would be a neat option to have a Pie-chart on the today’s assignment page. Each subject would be weighted according to time filled in. As they click each subject done, the pie chart begins to fill in. They can quickly see how much of the day is left (and so can mom). My kids like to think they are “almost” done by doing a bunch of super quick items and leaving the longer ones. If the subjects were weighted within the pie chart, then doing a longer subject would be rewarding b/c it would fill in a large piece of the pie.
For example (subjects and times are completely made up):
Math – 30 min
Reading – 15 min
Spelling – 5 min
Health – 10 min
Clicking on “worked on” or “finished” would compute the time. It would assume that you “worked on” the chapter for the appropriate time. So clicking on Math would fill in the pie chart half-way. Bam, half-way done with the day! (Don’t we wish!) However, if you chose to do Spelling first. Sure it is quick but when you click on Finished, it would only fill in 1/12th of the chart.
Clearly this would be an advanced option for those with super visual kids and moms. I’m sure there are some who would never want or use such an option. I like the idea of being able to toggle through the names and get a quick visual as to how far along each kid is in the day.
That is probably not a feature that we would add. The Organizer does show visual progress for the day by what items are left to be checked off, even though they are not proportional to the amount of time spent on them.
We try really hard to avoid adding complication or things that make you feel like you’re getting behind or becoming a slave to a schedule. There are plenty of other planners that do that and we like standing out by concentrating on being flexible and simple.
