I am a bit tight on $ at the moment, but LOVE all things SCM. I have 6 kids: 7th, 5th, 4th, 1st, PK and baby. I have schooled young children, although not Charlotte Mason philosophy. Wondering what you who have it (The Early Years), or have used it would recommend? How would you rate it with limited resource ($).
I just purchased it this past weekend at the conference but have not had a chance to watch it yet. I have a 8, 6 and 3 year old and I need the reminders for my youngest. Just glancing through the book it goes into habits and other things, ideas and reminders for those early years, so I think it will benefit all the kids. I hope to watch it tonight. My husband has basketball so it should be quiet after the kids are in bed (hopefully) 🙂
I got the book from the library a while back and purchased the video earlier this year. I am more of an auditory learner so I prefered the video. It was an easy and fast way to get some encouragement and tips. The book does have more info though so I would still like to pick it up as a reference to have on hand – I just worry that I’ll not get around to reading it. 😉 Either will give you great encouragement. Would your hubby be willing to watch the dvd with you? That might be another factor to consider. I would just go with whatever format you are likeky to get the most out of.
I’ll be honest, it’s hard to say one over the other because it depends on how you learn best. I LOVE the dvd set, especially because the 2nd disc showing teaching reading the CM way was really helpful to me so I could ‘see’ what the process was. However the book has so much information on all areas, including teaching reading, working with a gifted child (I have one out of the 8 so far), and I love the story that runs through each chapter. I’m a words in print, let me read it kind of girl. If I could only buy one right now it would be the book. But I would want the dvds eventually too. 🙂 Does that help? Do you have any questions we can help with? Are you looking for something in particular with these resources?
