Has anyone read these?  What did you think?

I have done the Thomas Jeffeson Education a few years back…I felt I would have gotten more out of it if I had a group in my area using it.  You can go online and see if there is a meet-up group in your area and they may let you check it out that way.

I have read the main book.  I have some serious reservations, both about the claims in the book, and about the people involved.  There is no harm in learning more about using classic books with children, but I would caution about getting deeply involved and I would think twice before sending a child to their “college”

I read the book, but not the home companion.  I did find it valuable and encouraging.  I liked the emphasis on mentorship and allowing students to pursue individual interests.  It didn’t have as much practical guidance as I would have liked, but perhaps that’s what’s the home companion is about?    My library does not have it, so I’m waiting for the home companion to come up on PB Swap.

One of my favorite quotes from the book from page 48, “To achieve truly excellent education, keep it simple: Read, Write, do Projects and Discuss.”
