….no one asked me, “So, are you still teaching the kids at home???” And I think it had a lot to do with 13yo dd’s dramatic announcement (shortly after we arrived at my sister’s house). She barely said hello to everyone before she almost shreiked, “Guess what?!! I got a Kindle Fire for Christmas!!!” Several pairs of eyes looked her way, and my niece (a 3rd grade teacher) asked, “Oh? You like to read a lot?” To which dd enthusiastically replied, “Oh, yes, I love to read!” The eyes all looked questioningly at me, and I simply said, “Yes, she does like to read quite a bit.”
Now, I wouldn’t characterize her as a voracious reader, but I didn’t tell them that. I did notice, however, that no one brought up the subject of how the kids are doing with that strange notion of educating at home….
Good for her/you guys…that’s fantastic!! I’m actually thinking of getting my son a Kindle for his bday coming up, we’ll see.
I wouldn’t characterize him as a voracious reader, either, but I know he reads real living books way more than his public schooled cousin, and enjoys it!!!
Yay! It’s nice to finally feel a little more accepted, isn’t it? 🙂
I think some “rumors” got passed around our family with our Child Protection incident earlier this fall. So hopefully some of that has been squelched around here, as well. No one mentions it in my hubby’s family because it’s a hot-button topic. My side seems “OK” with it, or at least tolerating. Hey, works for me!
