Heather, I don’t know anything about Thinkwell, but I think I remember you asking about the Life of Fred quite some time ago. Is that right? Did you use it? We picked up the Fractions book a few months ago and my son loved it. We’re going to continue with it. I was wondering if you had an opinion.
My husband used Thinkwell for calculus at a local communtiy college. He very much enjoyed the professor and was pleased with the class. Our own children are too young, but our intention is to use thinkwell as soon as they reach 6th grade. We are currently using Singapore for 2 children and Math Mammoth for another.
Cindy, nope wasn’t me – though I’ve looked into Life of Fred. It looks like a great math program(and so much fun) but I wondered how my highly visual ds would do with it. He loves to “see” the math problems worked out before him as well as view solutions if need be. Did your ds have any problems with the Fractions book? Mines getting ready to head into pre-algebra and I’ve thrown around the idea of Fred (much cheaper 🙂 ) However, not sure if it would be adequate enough to teach him. He’s wants to be an engineer, so he’ll need to get up to pre-calc. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Carol, thanks for sharing your opinion and your husbands experience with Thinkwell!
No, he didn’t have any problem with the book, but learning styles do differ as you know. According to their website, after the decimals book, a student can go into the Algebra book, skipping the pre-algebra. We’ll give it a go. My son is also engineering-minded and so I’ know what you mean about the math. Science is the same; trying to give him a good foundation before highschool.
Blessings,
Cindy
