So I was tucking my girls into bed the other night, and my 8 yo said “Mom, we haven’t been doing school lately” (We finished school the end of May, and are scheduled to start again July 5) and I told her we’d be starting in a couple of weeks. She said “but I miss school. And I think my handwriting is getting bad. I need lots of copywork. I love copywork. Do we have to wait 2 weeks? Can’t we start tomorrow?” To which my heart smiled, and I almost shouted “Of course, you blessed child!” But then I remembered that I still have books being shipped to me-should be here this week, actually- and that I still need to tie up some loose ends before we begin, but I made a bargain with her. I told her we could go ahead and start on math and science, since we didn’t get all the way through our science book last year, then we could start her new science when we’re done with the other one. She’s thrilled! Then my 4 year old said she wanted “school” too, and I told her we would work on her letters, which made her very happy. I’m so excited that they actually MISS school! Wow.
Thank you, Suzukimom! Yes, she is still in manuscript, and no, Winnie the Pooh isn’t too babyish. I think she’ll like this, especially since her little sister’s “literature” for the year consists mainly of A.A Milne and Beatrix Potter, so we’ll be revisiting all of these wonderful stories this year.
