Has anyone used “Then Sings My Soul: 150 of the Worlds Greatest Hymn Stories” by Robert Morgan? Also, do you know if there’s a music accompaniment? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Heather- we have not used that one, but it does look wonderful, from what I could see on Amazon.
We use something similar, although it does not have the musical notes in it it. It’s called The One Year Book of Hymns. It’s 365 days of devotions, with one hymn per day.
Yes we use that book. It has the piano arrangement on the left side and the hymn story on the right side. The 150 hymns are in chronological order of when they were written. We ususally learn one hymn per month along with our cousins. When our kids were smaller they would sing for the grands when we got together. We don’t do that as much anymore but it was neat when we did. We read the story together sometime during the month and sing the hymn each school day. If we don’t know the tune we play it on the keyboard using the music on the left. Nice book. Have you checked the library? Some of these hymn story books are available there and you can peruse them to see which one you like.
We use it too and like it alot. Here is a link that could be used for hymn study. They give the history of the song/composer and also a devotional. You can also download music and lyrics!
We are using that book as well. I really like it a lot! My mom already had book one and two, so she is letting me borrow them. We read the story, and listen online, (see bellow) then we sing the hymn every day together. I think we will probably do 1 hymn each month, but also try to review/sing the ones we’ve already learned.
http://www.hymnal.net/hymn.php/h/39 …this website could also be used easily for hymn study since it has the lyrics. It doesn’t have the sheet music or the story to go with though. If I were doing it this way, I’d probably just look up the history of the chosen hymn online to read to the kids.
We also have that book and use it. The stories are wonderful! I’m not an avid music reader, especially the bass clef, so we don’t really use the music. I just love the stories and the original lyrics.
Ladies, thank you for the excellent reviews! Also the shared links look wonderful! Susq, I found it at our library, so I can preview – thanks for the KDL reminder ! I’m really excited about this! Thanks again.
God bless you all! ~ Heather
