    Hi everyone,

I am just starting out with my CM education and I had a question that I would love some feedback on. It has to do with fostering the habit of attention (which we all know is so important!). I have heard Sonya say that she will only repeat instructions once so that the children know they need to listen the first time. I think this is a great idea. But I have a son who is very easily distracted and I was wondering what to do if he didn’t hear my instructions and he is just sitting there wondering what to do. Do I repeat the instructions? (seems to defeat the point) We can’t just NOT do the assignment because I refuse to repeat the instructions and he wasn’t listening. This is a big obstacle in his education (and also very frustrating for me!) and so I would love to learn from those of you who have been in this situation or have any advice in this area. Thank you so much!

I find that I have to make eye contact and have them repeat it back to me.  Also having a timer handy really helps my easily distracted child.  I also have to make sure that I do not give too many instructions at once. =)

This is a website I use for help with character traits.  See if anything hits you, there are verses, pratical applications, in the car ideas, and more.

I do try to make sure that I let my dc know that we are doing something that requires their full attention. (I hope that makes sense and doesn’t sound like they don’t have to other times, cause that’s not what I mean.) Especially for dictation, chores, narration, and probably some other things, I need them to know ahead of time that I’m only going to read, say, or whatever, 1 time.

When it comes to working with my dc on life skills, math facts, cursive, I had to realize that those concepts will take more time and cause me to repeat myself, iykwim.
