I am trying to decide if we will do “The Bronze Bow” as a whole family read aloud or if I will just assign it as independent reading for my older children. Our kids are 12, 10, 9 and 7. Any thoughts?
We read it as a family read aloud this year, 13, 10 and 7 year old. We all enjoyed it very much. I missed so much in public school I like to read aloud as many “school” books as my kids will tolerate, for completely selfish reasons.
Loved this one! I also missed it as a child and read it as an adult. Sometimes I estimate their ages for the next time through a time period. If they will be too old the next time around, I might read it aloud. Although, they will probably enjoy it again in another 4 or 6 years!
I also have really enjoyed reading books that I missed growing up. I have started spending time in the summer to preread the books that the kids are going to be reading (the great thing about a history rotation is all I have to do is read the next level up when we circle back through). By prereading I know which ones that I want to read aloud so the little ones can enjoy, or if I want the child to read it aloud to me, or if it will be a fun book for them to look forward to reading on their own.
