I just purchased the Betty Lukens complete Bible felt set (so excited about this!). In the teacher’s manual, it tells you which story from the Bible in Living Sound correlates. I was wondering if any of you have used these? My computer wouldn’t load the audio sample unfortunately. If you’ve used them, what age would you find them suitable for? They say nondenominational – did you find this to be true?

Thank you kindly for the help,

I have the felt sets, but have never used the audio component. Sorry.

Do you follow their stories in the guide, or do you own? Have you found the felt set helpful? I’m still cutting stuff out, so I haven’t used it yet.

I used the figures to tell the stories in my own words – their stories are fine, but I find that I can keep attention much better making eye contact and with some animation. I mostly used them with my nursery class (18mo to 3yrs) at church and with my younger children at home.

They are great for getting children familiar with the stories and letting them narrate the stories back. 😉 Sometimes even having 1 figure out helps give the kids a mental hook and visual focus while listening to the actual Bible readings too.

I have always dreamed of buying this! It has been on my list since my 13 yo was 5! But every year other purchases crowd this out. 🙁 I think it is a great medium to help children learn the stories and to help them to be their own story teller too!

    Have fun!

This doesn’t answer your question, but my MIL has a felt set and sometimes she has the girls pick out felts to put up several Bible scenes (you pick the #, so they don’t go on forever), and then everyone else guesses what story they were showing.  It’s kinda like charades with felts.  The girls really enjoy that.  Enjoy your felts!

I do as sheraz does. I don’t have the audio and tell the story in my own words referring to the bible. I feel it’s important that the know the stories are from The Bible not a handbook. I have used with my kids and Sunday school classes up to age 6. Even my 12 to likes the felt.

Pangit, that is what my mom and I were doing when we were cutting them out. We were laughing so hard when we got to the car, not realizing they had modern things. We were so convinced there was no way that it could be a car, so we were racking our brains for what on earth it could be!

And I agree Christie, whenever I use something like that for teaching, I use it as a tool for myself in preparation and then have my Bible out when I’m actually doing the lesson. I just thought it looks so helpful for having it well laid out and organized in terms of finding all the pieces. When I saw those correlating CDs, I was thinking of them more for while driving or quiet time or something like that.

I DO use the book to find the pieces!!! I own all of the Your Story Hour Bible cds, so we enjoy those a lot.
