OK I just finished reading My Side of the Mountain to my dc. And I am crying with joy..and wanting to burn out the inside of a tree and live off the land..well minus the liver of animals..not to keen on that idea.
Am I the only one? This is why I love the CM style of teaching. I get to experience it all with my children. And yes, I do cry at everything..Little House, well I didn’t cry while listening to my husband read Journey to the Center of the Earth..but yes, The Courage of Sarah Noble and several others. Please tell me I’m not the only one. 🙂
I think when all is said and done, one of my very favorite things about parenting will have been reading aloud to my children and sharing all the wonderful books out there. And yes, crying and cheering and clapping . . . although I’m usually the only one in my house who cries. LOL
You are definitely not alone! I have been known to cry, laugh, and otherwise show emotion about a book. My kids don’t usually cry with me (too many boys, I think) but they do laugh and cheer with me.
I agree with Michelle, one of my favorite things about parenting is sharing books with my kids. I know that sharing books together is something my children like too because they insisted we have a family read aloud time just so Dad isn’t left out of the fun. They felt sorry for him because he was missing out on so many good books. 🙂
What’s really hard is trying to continue reading when you’re all choked up, and all you really want to do is, set the book down, get a box of kleenex and cry your eyes out. However, you have boys just staring at you with that look in their eye like “Are ya gonna keep readin’ already”? 🙂
That is so funny Heather…my kids do that to me all the time.
Another hard thing is to stop reading when my children need a break or to leave them hanging..secretly I want to steal away to my room and keep reading but then it’s not as fun to read it for the dc. 🙂
Thanks Karen, Michelle and Heather for letting me know I’m not alone. And thanks for having your pics on Avatar..I love reading your posts and seeing your face. What sweet smiles you all have.
Thanks for asking this question Shelly — Every time I cry my boys just say “Mom why do you always cry?” I am not only glad to hear others cry but also that your boys don’t cry and wonder what’s up? I was thinking maybe they didn’t have any feelings. Guess it’s a boy thing.
