teaching the classics-do i need to read the books?

HI–I am leaning towards CM again for the fall but will have a 9th grader to plan for.  I have thought about the teaching the classics program rather than a “literature guide” for the books she reads.  My question:  Do i need to read all the books that she reads to be able to apply this method?  i won’t have time to read all the books she will be reading-i have three other children.  I just don’t know how to handle literature analysis without  a guide and information about the book itself.  Any suggestions
