We are all sick with colds and it was drizzling outside so today was a light day of school. Yesterday, I told my ds6.5 that we were doing a nature walk today and he was excited. I did NOT want to do the walk with the baby in tow feeling tired and yucky but I sucked it up and we went. It was awesome! Not only did we see so many things but he made a comment that warmed my heart. As he was watching a grasshopper he said ,”Life is good.” He explained that he loves being in nature. Just thought I’d share!
I love that too. Nature study only works for me when I quit planning and just do it. We are at Destin right now and the kids went nuts for walking last night in the moonlight and chasing “ghost crabs” and wondering all about them. Plus … their little hands found ours over and over – no small thing for big kids like ours! 🙂 Life is good!
Thanks for sharing! I had an unexpected nature study of my own when I spent my “quiet time” outside this afternoon. My yard was so alive with birds and squirrels and all that I had to sit and soak it in and journal about it. I was even christened with some bird droppings while under my silver maple tree! I love the joy of observation when I stop and allow myself the time. And I’m so excited to do more of this with my children. They are currently outside under the front porch listening to, watching, feeling, and smelling a thunder storm! I’ll have to encourage them to journal about it when they come in 🙂
