My dd7 has expressed an interest in learning how to type (she likes to write emails to grandma and is lamenting that “I don’t type as fast as you do, mama”). Can anyone suggest a typing program that would be appropriate for a 7yo? I know there are some free ones online, however, we need something that can be used apart from the internet. (So either an actual software purchase, or something that can be downloaded.)
My dd10 just started Typing Instructor Platinum and loves it. As houseofchaos mentioned, I would do the regular version. It has no shortage of games and fun to keep them motivated.
my 6&9 yo’s learned to type with Talking Fingers: Read, Write & Type. They asked to do it first everyday. I could set the level higher for the older, bonus reading practice with it. I ordered the software but it can be done online too. Totally fun.
You can’t beat the price of Typing Instructor – I think we have the platinum version – super cheap – you can even download it if you don’t want to wait for the CD to arrive. My 6 and 8 year olds use it with no problem.
We’ve done the trial version of Read Write Type and really enjoyed that too.
