Our local CM group watched laying down the rails last night and Sonya mentioned using characters in books as a way to help encourage a certain habit. I washoping to get some suggestions or to be pointed to a list that has books/stories/characters that have the habits that Charlotte wrote about. I am especially interested in the top 3 of Truthfulness, Obedience and Attentiveness.
You might want to check out Lamplighter Publishing. Once on their home page, there is a link for character themes. I am going to purchase a couple of these this year. I’ve heard nothing but great reviews from everyone who has read them.
I’m sure you’ve already thought of this, but Gods Word is the greatest LIVING book of all! The Bible is FULL of these character traits displayed in the life of Jesus and Gods children throughout.
I agree with the Bible (my kids seem to make great applications on their own when they recognize similarities to what is going on around here). I also third the Lamplighter suggestion. One of their books in particular (that was mentioned above) has been a HUGE help to my older son. “Teddy’s Button” is about a little boy who had trouble keeping his self control (a struggle my son has – big fits). That has helped him a lot as he really identified with Teddy.
This is an old post, but I am trying to find some resources to help my 4 year old ds with self control. The synopses I’ve read on Teddy’s Button don’t mention tantrums or self control. Is this the right Lamplighter book for that? Also, any ideas on specific Bible stories that could connect with a 4 year old that struggles with massive tantrums?
