This is something that has been on my heart recently and I am wondering if anyone knows of some resources I can get to enable me to more extensively do this.  I am not only interested for myself, but to be able to integrate this into Bible Study with my children would be ideal.  I just know there is so much rich and deep history I am missing.  I would prefer something to have in hand…is there a certain study bible with historical notes out there?  I have found a couple of websites which offer some info, but I’m not such a big fan of reading online, plus I’d rather have something more accessible.

I hope this question makes sense!  Thanks!

I would suggest that you get your hands on a biblical handbook such as http://www.familychristian.com/shop/product.asp?prodID=12441&name=David Alexander, Pat Alexander-Zondervan Handbook to the Bible.

A Biblical handbook looks at each individual book of the Bible, tells you when it was happening, what was going on–how it relates to other events in the bible, who wrote it and why, ect.  This particular one has great pictures of archeological items as well.  I think every household should have something like this to use in their general Bible study.  Its really great for learning the back ground of history.

This is such an awesome topic! I’m waiting for Rachel to respond Wink.  I, too, was going to recommend the Sound of Trumpet covenant studies – these were wonderful eye openers for our family. Though a bit much for younger dc, Our Father Abraham: Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith was a life changer. Blessings, Heather

Check out the teachings by Dwight and Keren Pryor at http://www.jcstudies.com

Dwight was one of the pioneers of the Jewish Roots movement in the USA. He has many resouces about why and how to study the Bible from a Hebraic perspective.

Keren has a Devotion book that takes you through the 5 books of Moses following the weekly Torah portion. Her writings are a little less academic then Dwights and may be better suited to using with your children.

I receive Keren’s Torah portion teaching each week by email.

    Blessings, Michelle
