@Sue, I’ve made the home page more clear about needing to sign up.
@peterfam, I tried it on an iPad yesterday, but it seemed to work just fine. It may have just been that the interface is not as intuitive as it should be. I’ve added some explanation to the page, though ideally I should improve the interface.
Just tried the game again. Much improvement over last time. I did notice that if I press something in the wrong order, it slows the game, and it appears unresponsive, but with patience it will allow me to push the correct button (sometimes I would click my card before drawing, or click to draw when I should be discarding.
Beyond that, the game does not allow for pick up from the discard pile. I was also unable to add to a meld already on the table. My opponent never melded, and at the end of the game ( I think it was the end, I could not pick up a card or discard, even with patience so I guessed the game was over) there were 39 cards in the discard pile, 6 on the table melded by me, 1 in my hand, 7 in my opponents hand, and the draw pile still showed at least 1 card. That makes 54 cards, which would work if jokers are in play.
I am using an iPad, I do hope this is useful information.
The game is incomplete at this point, which is why you can’t take from the discard pile or add to melds yet. It’s also why it’s hard to tell when the game is over; it never really ends at this point. Right now, the opponent is the computer, and I haven’t given it the ability to meld yet. Right now, I’m not entirely sure how much of this I’ll be able to complete.
Thanks for the feedback! It’s very helpful (and useful)!
Even in its incomplete state, it reminds me of the solitaire game the comes standard with Windows. Even though they play complex, graphically rich strategy games on the computer & their tablets, my kids (all teens) still love the solitaire game. I think they would enjoy games like the Rummy 500 game. I’ll see if they can take some time to try this out tomorrow & let you know what they think.
Yesterday was the last day for this project, and next month I’ll be moving on to the next phase of the academy, which will involve going deeper with a specific set of technologies. I haven’t heard yet if I’ll be actively continuing this project, or if I’ll be working on something else.
I’ll be writing a blog post about my experiences for the academy’s Web site, and I can post a link to that when it’s up if anyone’s interested.
