  • Does anyone here use Story Starters by Karen Andreola?

Just wondering your thoughts on it.

I haven’t used it yet but plan on using it this year.  I’m excited about it.  It looks like a good way to encourage creative narration (with a slant).  My son is newly 9 yrs. old and is reluctant to narrate and write.  However, he is very creative when he and I make up stories together.  My thought in using it is too transition him from orally doing it to writing it mid year.  Then next year, start on written narrations.  I also think I can pull my younger daughter in (5) but doing it orally.  It will be a family affair.  In fact, we are going on vacation this week and I plan on taking it with us as something we can have fun with in the car.  🙂

    Hello Nancy,

We started this book a little last year and found it to be helpful with narration. We will be using it again this year to “prime the creativity pump” of narration to writing. I like it a lot and the drawings are quaint and fun to study with the stories.

Story Starters is great for those who have trouble coming up with something to write about!  The stories are varied and interesting.  There are so many stories that it can be overwhelming, so I just pick out a few for my kids to choose from each time I ask them to write.  We’ve been very pleased with it.
