Story starter and writen naration

I have a son going to 6th grade next year.

We had started doing Story Starter last year and switched to writen naration once a week.

I am wondering for this coming school year if we should alternate between the two?

I do not think we could do more then one or the other in a week.

Maybe Story Starter once a month.

Those of you using Story Starter, what age did you start?

My son likes to read but sometimes lacks the focus, his story did not always make sense because he did not pay enough attention reading the beginning. I don’t know if it is because he is too young or because he needs practice!?!
