I am about to start using a 3-ring binder to store the kids’ art projects, but I had a question about construction paper drawings & other oversized items. How do those of you who use this system store those? Do they make oversized binders & sheet protectors? I do plan on taking pics of most 3D projects to save space, but the larger sheets of paper have me stumped.

Hello, Sara.
I usually cut, using a nice large papercutter, our watercolor paper, construction paper, and other art paper down to fit the regular 8.5 X 11 page protector. However, I do also use these Itoya art portfolios for larger special items.
Besides oversized artwork, the children and I like to design science posters once in a while. Lately we have been making a family nature notebook using the 18 X 24 book and contributing to the same large page as a family. I purchased large

You can take up an close pictures of the projects and scrapbook them. This way you can see what they did and the art is in a book in a smaller size. I would recommend trying the photo enhancing button when you go to develop the pictures. Sometimes they actually turn out really bright. 🙂 I did this with some of my mothers old artwork. She was so releived to have a picture in an album instead. She was also impressed it turned out beautiful. Less space and you can feel happy to send that special artwork to a grandparent. 🙂 …..or toss it… 🙂

I agree with taking a photo of it or even scanning it. Create a digital scrapbook…but then again…you may actually want to keep the original too….I know I would LOL

Well, in that case if you want to save it just put it in a cardboard file box. I heard of a suggestion one time…. It was about letting the kids keep their favorites in a treasure box. (file box) of their own. They could only keep about 10-15 projects throughout the year. The rest must be discarded. Really nice ones you could take a picture of…:) anyway, this taught them to dicard material in a timely manner. Go threw their things, sort , and distiguish what they want to keep and what to get rid of. This was suppose to be a organizing tool for the future for them. I sort of do this. Except I kept some of their first school ones in a box. I also let my kids have a 3 ring binder and they keep their favorites in it. We have the slip in pages. This way they can see their art work. My daughter is thrilled with this and has her’s almost filled. So she will have to start discarding soon. They decorate the front of the binder with a colorful Art picture and they get to keep it with them. she always is looking in hers. If I find her pictures laying around the table I ask if she wants them. (If I think they are good.) If not then I wait and then toss and don’t ask her. 🙂 those were a couple of my ideas. I do love hearing others ideas too. Sometimes you come up with your own idea in the midst of two other suggestions. 🙂

Oh, boy, I’d have albums & albums of photos printed the way my kids do art. They are some sort of creative geniuses or something, especially my oldest. LOL Definitely I’ll take pics of 3D objects, but would you do that with drawings, too? I can’t see myself having time to do that 10 times a day per child (I have 3 doing art projects so far). I’ll have to look into those larger art portfolios, Janell. Do you get them online or locally? There’s an art store nearby my dh’s work, along with a Michael’s. I’ll have to check both of them out next time I take him to work.

I did my mom’s drawlings and paintings. It turned out nice. You could always take pictures and put them on CD and store them that away. Then just print the ones you want to put to album each year. Make it a scrapbooking project for you and the kids. Then, they can pick the best ones of the year and put them in the album themselves. 🙂 Otherwise you will have a ton of projects taking up space that you won’t be able to enjoy. You could even get one of those wall picture frames that changes pictures every few seconds. Load them into the picture frame and hang it on your wall. Then you can watch all of your kids favorite pictures. Just another idea off the top of my head. 🙂 Just brainstorming for ya…:)
