When I got done reading Chapter 8 today. I asked my second grader to retell me the story. This is what he said,

“A boy named Auntie wanted to become a soldier, but, not just any soldier – a great general. He got his dream. Then, one day he decided not to follow orders and all of his army was killed.”

I feel like this is a great narration and summary of what we read. It doesn’t mention Custer or any major battles but does tell me that he got most of the story.

What do you think? Is this appropraite for a second grader?
