Everytime I come to the SCM forum I am automatically logged out and must log in to post or subscirbe to threads. Is this common to the forum, or is it a problem with my browser?

I noticed that, too.  I just figured that’s the way it is…..but I wonder if there’s a fix to stay logged in, so I’ll be watching for a “techie” reply, too!

    same thing happens here

Staying logged in to a site, like this forums site, is dependent on a thing called Session Timeout which is setup on the web server, not your web browser client. Unless they disable the Session Timeout, your login will timeout after a certain amount of time not being used. In the Windows Server world, the default for this is 20 minutes. The setting can be changed or they can eliminate Session Timeout for a specific web application, but this is where it is coming from.

I noticed that on the Organizer, the session doesn’t appear to timeout unless I reboot my computer or until the current time rolls over to the next day. I haven’t been paying attention to the forum timeout, so I am not sure how long you can go without using it before having to login again.

    HTH!

Actually, the forum and the Organizer should keep you logged in for at least a few weeks, if not more. And each time you use it while logged in should reset that time.

If your Web browser, antivirus software, or other software is set to not accept or delete cookies then we can’t keep you logged in, so check your settings.

I checked my firefox settings (I have version 3.6.3) and found cookies for SCM.  Like Cindy, I stay logged in to the Organizer, but not the forum.

I have to keep logging in here, as well.  I run my own forum, and we have an option to check that says “Remember me” or “keep me logged in” or something like that.  I never have to log in unless I haven’t been there in like 2 weeks (which of course has never happened).

I’ll double check the forum settings and see if we have something not quite right.

Has anything changed with this notion of staying logged in?  I was just wondering because I still have to log in each time I visit the site….and I am notorious for closing a tab when I didn’t intend to!

Having asked this, I was wondering if there really is any need to be logged in other than to be able to post.  After all, I can still read all of the recent posts without logging in, but perhaps I have overlooked other privileges to being logged in. Cool

I made some changes but was just waiting to hear back if it helped anyone. It looks like that didn’t do it so I’ll have to investigate some more.

That is correct, you can read just fine without logging in. When you are logged in you can post and you get notified if you have a private message waiting.

You can also subscribe to threads when you are logged in.  There are some threads that I don’t intend to post in but they are so full of wisdom and helpful advice that I like to subscribe to them for future reference.

Yay! I stayed logged in!!!  I accidentally closed the SCM tab and when I came back, I didn’t have to log in again….now my day is complete. Cool
