psreitmom ParticipantI need to do PA history with my daughter this coming year. She is not working at ‘grade level’ due to her language based learning disabilities, including dyslexia. So, I am looking for a gentle way to cover this. It shouldn’t have a lot of writing. Some kind of unit study with a little note booking, including pictures, would be good. I am not going to spend a lot of time on it, but I need to do more than just read a book. Any suggestions?
Karen ParticipantI think Schoolhouse Publishing has something for Pennsylvania….I’m not sure of the cost, though. shpublishing.com
Keystone Pennsylvania History is the title, I think.
pangit ParticipantMake a salt dough map
Make a poster that can include a timeline, state bird, flower, tree, etc. (use lots of pictures or coloring pictures with this)
Have her make a picture book of key events
Have her pretend to be a key figure of PA history (and even dress up like them) and do an interview. Video record it if possible.
Does she like to write stories, poetry, songs? She could do one about the history of PA
Learn the State Song
If possible, visit:
Capital Building
State or County Museum

retrofam ParticipantStatehistory.net is what we used. You can tailor it to your needs.
psreitmom ParticipantThanks for the ideas:)
TX-Melissa ParticipantCheck Curclick for state unit studies. I purchased one for Texas to use for a guide.
HollyS ParticipantDS contacted our state’s Chamber of Commerce and received a nice state information packet in the mail. It was part of his LLATL research project.
