starting nature study with…older children

Hi,

Just wondering…if anyone has ever started doing nature study with older children, say 12 and up?  i have always thought of nature study as a young child thing but I am beginning to think that maybe my older children would really enjoy some time outdoors, purposefully.  They spend lots of time outdoors doing games of their own making, but truely, “I” could really use a walk in the woods or by a stream during the week to refresh me.

If anyone has any hints, I would LOVE to hear about them!!
