I finally got around to spraying the stack of pastels that my kids did while watching Creating a Masterpiece (which was an excellent experience, by the way). I should have done it sooner because some of them were smudged. Anyway, I have this can of Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating someone recommended but it left drip marks. I heard that you can use hair spray but does someone know exactly what kind?
I want to caution you about the Aqua Net as that is what I used too (totally 80’s and big bangs flashbacks here as well!), but we used printer paper and once dried, the pages were wavy. It probably works better on thicker paper, but I ruined a few pieces of art because they were on thin paper. I now laminate pastel art work they do on thin paper if they want to keep it.
Ha! Yes, the days of Aqua Net and big hair! We’ve always used the thicker pastel/drawing paper made by Canson and the spray has always worked great on that. Spray very lightly outdoors and the hairspray should keep the pastels from rubbing off excessively. I’ve never tried thin paper, but could see it might cause some waviness and wrinkles.
I used some Garnier kind I already had on hand, and it has worked perfectly. And it actually smells decent! I don’t think it matters too much what kind it is.
