Oh, wow! That does look good. Looks like it’s in the same vein as David Macaulay’s stuff. Thanks!

We are 1/4 way through SOTW 4 and not liking it AT ALL! So I came on here to look around…and it looks like everyone doing Modern Times has the same problem as us!I know this thread is a few years old…but I was wondering if anyone has a NEW suggestion?

For now, I think I’ll start assigning SOTW to the girls (9th and 6th…9th also reads/loves Streams of Civilization 2) to read independently and narrate to me. And just read the lower grade Module 6 books aloud to all 7 of the kids in the morning.

Just googled Hakim’s series…then saw Bookworm’s 2 thumbs down! I’ve checked AO, but they use SOTW 4. Foster ends with Lincoln. Child’s History stops short. I wonder…has anyone used Christian Liberty Press’ US History?

    Help!

There are further Fosters.  The Year of the Flying Machine, a biography of Theodore Roosevelt.  No, no new suggestions.  I tried actually a high school level book, the world history from Notgrass, and I don’t like it either!  This is probably the single most annoying thing from all my homeschooling–why can’t anyone do a decent modern history?????

I’ve been looking at the Hakim books as well. May I ask what it is that you didn’t like about them? Thanks!

I would just like to say that I really like Joy Hakim’s books. So far we have read aloud the first seven. I wish I could find a world history as good as these. We are using SOTW but I would prefer something more like a Foster book for the 20th Century.
