spine for 1850-modern–story of the world?

    I am looking for a spine for this time period 1850-modern and was considering using story of the world-however, i have heard that it is not appropriate for 2-3 graders, which i have two.  I also have 8th grader and 5th grader and really was hoping to read all together.

    any other suggestions?

    Personally if anything I think it’d be toughest on your 8th grader.  My children find this book very annoying.  🙂  Your 2nd grader isn’t going to “catch” everything, but then I know of nothing at all that covers modern history that would be any MORE appropriate for the age.  It’s a pity, but the choices for this time period are pretty thin.
