I remember reading that we should attempt to avoid letting children see words spelled incorrectly whenever possible. But then I read that we are to have them attempt to spell a word how they think it’s spelled, this is the beginning of learning to spell. My dd writes long sentances of misspelled words, and of course she sees them. When I attempt to cover them up she just gets frustrated and seems to feel that her hard work means nothing. Any advice?
We had this problem as well. it’s very disheartening when the child is trying so hard and yet knows they are making errors. We started using All About Spelling which incorporates dictation into the spelling lessons. The dictation is based on the phonograms and spelling rules the child is studying. This has built confidence back up.
